1st OBGYN appointment

Had my first appointment with my OBGYN Dr.K today. Looks like she is taking over my care from here on in. It was all a little confusing for me. First off I didn't know why I was going to see Dr. K already... and then when the receptionist was in the process of booking me for another appointment I had to ask what was going on lol Dr. K did a full work up and all looks well. She booked our ultrasound... January 22nd. Hopefully this baby will be much more revealing than Dylan was!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas!!!

Looking at all the presents under the tree... I can't imagine what it will be like next Christmas with santa coming for 2!!! It's exciting to think about it though! Dylan was so cute... he picked out a little mickey mouse book and toy @ costco and insisted on getting for the baby as a Christmas gift. So then santa had to get the baby a little something too! So even though his or her arrival is months away... thre are two gifts for the baby under the tree!

We told everyone the news after the first ultrasound! Pretty pleasant reaction all around. Mom said she suspected I was pregnant and a lot of the girls suspected it too!

9 weeks plus

Still feeling pretty dragged out... hopefully I start to get some energy back soon. Otherwise everything is going fine. Been a lot easier to keep it a secret than i ever thought it would be. Suppose to go for an ultra sound next week but still haven't heard from the docs office... so I guess I will have to call them today.

Update!!!
Our appointment for the 10 week Ultrasound is Monday November 17th!!! So exciting!!!

The red white and blue

Proud day for Americans. I was very pleased with their electoral results. I'm always impressed and some what envious of the energy Americans emote with their elections. Wish Canadian federal elections had so much energy. Be really nice to want to support a candidate for PM rather than always having in defense. Feelings like we are always voting against someone rather than for.

Open up and say aaaaaaaahhh

DS had his first dentist appointment today. He did awesome! Everyone in the office was sooo impressed. He got extra prizes from the hygienist whom praised him to no end and told all the office workers how good he was. Of course I bought him a new train as a reward!

Anyone looking for a really cute book about going to the dentist the Dora the Explorer book "Show me your Smile: A visit to the Dentist"
is a great option. It has realistic pictures and shows the office and the tools used in detail. There is even a page on xrays. I initally picked up the Berenstain's bears book "The Berenstain Bears Visit the Dentist" but it's more about a loose tooth and I wasn't impressed at the negativity expressed by brother bear. The dora book is a much better choice for the first time toddler!

8 weeks plus

Feeling pretty good. Tired and lacking energy all the time. I've gained no weight, but have had to start breaking out the maternity clothes. Trying to start picking up a few winter items too! Buying all supper big maternity clothes as I'm anticipating being as large as I was last pregnancy... but really hoping the regiment that my obgyn has me on will help. I'm taking the regular prenatal vitamins plus a calcium substitute and low dose aspirin daily. Sounds like a lot when you write it out!

We've been starting to prep ds with a few new books... havent found any real great ones yet though. I'll have to do some book reviews later. He's so into babies lately... I think he will be totally ecstatic when we finally tell him.

7 weeks

7 weeks today and had my first appointment and blood work today. Everything looks good and is all in the right place lol Because of the issues with "dating" with my 1st pregnancy she's going to try and get me in for an early ultrasound at 10 weeks and back for another appointment at 11 weeks. If all is well I think we will probably let the cat out of the bag after that.

DS also had a check up today. He's rarely sick, 3 years old and never had a prescription. But it was nice to get him checked out. He is nearly 100% for height and between 75 and 80% for weight. I mentioned the not eating meat thing but our doctor didn't seem concerned. Also mentioned his active nature, and she basically said not to worry about it. She (like me) seemed to attribute alot of it to his personality. She was also impressed at his speech and said he was well advanced and could be another reason he always the most chatty one in the group.

What day is it again?

I was more than disappointed with the election results outside of Atlantic Canada, but not surprised.

DS did prety good at skating. DH came too which was great! I don't think my back would have been able to handle it all on my own.

Yesterday was violin. DS did much better than last week, still likes to run around too much for my liking. His teacher had more hands on activities for him yesterday, which is truly what he needs.

This is our C week.. so we are going to make some cookies in a bit.

I'm feeling ok. Was really tired yesterday though. Mommy brain is kicking in (whether scientifically proven or not). I made an appointment for ds to get his hair cut... thinking tomorrow was Saturday... duh! So had to call back and change it!

5 weeks strong and growing

Had a meet up with the gals yesterday! Was so hard to not spill the beans. I'm most excited to tell ds though. I think I will start doing him up a little big brother gift bag. Some related books and maybe a t-shirt or something. The idea of having him call up the folks and say "I'm gonna be a big brother" has really grown on me.

I'm feeling okay this week. I think we need to finally step up to a queen size bed though. I just can't get comfortable. My back has been bothering me a bit. I've been consciously trying not to pick up ds a lot... not an easy task.

DS has his first pre-canskake class today... should be interesting. Dh is going to go too and we are planning to go vote before heading to the stadium. I'm all jittery about the election. I'm really hoping for a change!

Four for a Birth

Had a pretty good day today! Went to visit my parents and had a late dinner out there. DS had a great time riding on his new John Deer Tractor that his uncle bought him for his birthday. I tried out dads new tractor hehe

We were able to keep the secret of our nugget... even when dad asked me at one point if i was pregnant. Right after that dh called my attention to the big black crows out on the back patio. In total 4. So then I was trying to think of the verse. Luckily I couldn't remember it at that very moment.

One for sorrow
Two for mirth
Three for a wedding
Four for a birth
Five for silver
Six for gold
Seven of a secret not to be told
Eight for heaven
Nine for hell
And ten for the devil's own self.

Tickers

Sorry for the excessive number of tickers... trying to decide on one I like.

We're Expecting!

We found out this week that we are expecting baby #2. This baby was planned, but conceived on the first try. So still somewhat surprising. Baby #2 is lovingly being referred to as "nugget". DH cuddled in and said "how's my nugget" and it just stuck! Nugget fits perfect right now because it is a total double entendre. "Nugget" like a nugget in the oven and "nugget" like a secret nugget of information.

We've decided to keep the lid on this pregnancy for a little while for a couple reasons. One there's ds to consider. Admittedly I am bursting at the seems to tell ds he will soon be a big brother. But he is so observant and perceptive that I really wouldn't want to have to go trying to explain the intricacies if heaven forbid something were to happen. Because it is also unfair to tell everyone else and not ds, we are staying hush hush... probably until the end of the 1st trimester. That may be wishful thinking though... because I will likely be showing by then at this rate. There is also a degree of stress that comes with telling everyone... looking forward to avoiding that for a little while at least.

The Cost Of Babies Flying Gratis

A very interesting read. I'm glad this issue is being discussed.

Lil man is nearly 3 and 39lbs, he will be traveling in his britax frontier when we travel next month. The Frontier is aircraft approved but i have not heard of anyone actually using it on board. So if anyone has experience please comment!!

Yo Gabba Gabba

What is it about taking money out of the pocket of corporate giants that makes you feel so good? :D
We scored some cute "Yo gabba gabba" toys (the first i've ever seen) for $6.99 a piece. They had Brobee and Muno. Turns out they were suppose to be $19.99 each. Because they were all clearly marked with the stores tag at the price of $6.99 they had to sell it to us for that. We had four in total. Two for d and two for his little friend. They are really cute... I've never seen the toys anywhere before even online. The only "Yo Gabba Gabba" merch I've seen was some seriously over priced t-shirts.

Yo Gabba Gabba is a nick jr show created and headed by the singer of a band called the aquabats.

Anyone wanting a good pee in your pants laugh... try checking out the assortment of Elijah Wood dancey dance clips on youtube. People have taken his wicked moves from yo gabba gabba and mixed with with a wide assortment of tunes.

In the Night Garden

"In the Night Garden" is a show that orginated in the UK, from the same creators as the teletubbies. It is aimed at babies and preschoolers. I never liked the teletubbies... but Dylan's new found fondness for the "In the Night Garden" characters has some what drawn me in. I told doug it's like Pootie Tang for tots... they are speaking a form of English... but rather inverted. Nice relaxing xylophone music, easy on the eyes, the whole thing is suppose to be about a surreal dream. They play with this odd looking toy train called a "Ninky Nonk"... try saying that with out giggling?

Dylan's favorite character is Makkapakka. The lyrics to this characters little rhyme/ song go:

'Makka Pakka, akka wakka, micka makka moo!

Makka Pakka, appa yakka, ikka akka oo.

Hum dum, agga pang, ing ang oo.

Makka Pakka, akka wakka, mikka makka moo!'

There are petitions up on tree house to get rid of it stating it has no educational value. I'm not sure exactly what educational value the show has... if any. Just looking at those lyrics it's got to have some rebus or phonetic value to it. All the names and songs are vowel prominent and rhyming not unlike Dr. Seuss. Treehouse has alot worst programing in my opinion

Dust off my mouse ears...

It's been a busy week. We finally took the leap and nailed down the details for a 2 week trip to Florida. We figured it's a now or never type of deal, and really want to get a trip in before expanding our family. Extra special because we will be celebrating little man's 3rd Birthday there. I can't think of a better way to celebrate a birthday! Little man will be blown away. I Can't wait! One week on the disney resort and one week off. Just getting away will be so awesome! First trip for little man and our first trip since he was born.

Let's Try this again...

Time is definitely not on my side... but the need for an outlet always exists. So lets try this again. This is to be my spot for random thoughts, day to day comings and goings, rants, raves, creative outcry's and whatever else I feel like sticking in here. Also a bit of a way to track the life of my soon to be 3 year old tot; of which seems to be flying by at warp speed. I've tried blogging before and failed miserably... here's hoping this one is more of a success.

"Baby Brain" a real phenonmenon!

Research confirms it! "Baby Brain" is a real phenomenon. Well no shit! I'm sure every new mom and mom to be has at least one tale to tell of their mommy induced forgetfulness! Who funds these things? BPA in the news again!

Thought this was interesting enough to share! This article basically answers a question that has been nagging me "Why is this issue not being taken more seriously by the powers that be?" It is summed up in this paragraph:

Many of the nearly 200 studies finding severe health effects from bisphenol A exposure have been done by injecting young or pregnant rodents with the chemical.
The American Chemistry Council, an Arlington, Va., trade group for major BPA manufacturers, has argued that injection study results aren't applicable to humans because people are thought to have most of their exposures from oral sources, such as food, subject to rapid metabolizing by liver enzymes. Delivering BPA by injection bypasses this detoxification process and may cause health effects that wouldn't occur by ingesting the chemical, according to the industry's view.

In short. The tests results were obtained through injection of rodents with BPA... and since babies are being fed formula from bottle... not being given shots... it is being suggested that the study is not applicable. I think "not applicable" might be a bit strong. But certainly there are bound to be discrepancies and possibly an exaggeration of symptoms without the inclusion of the effects of breakdown in the liver.

All in all just one more reason to add to the "Why breast is best?" list!

Highlights High Five

Oh how "Highlights" kids magazine was loved in my childhood household. I remember many fights with my sibling over who would get to read it first and more importantly who would get the first crack at the hidden picture puzzle. I was very excited to find out they have a NEW magazine called "Highlight High Five" which targets the 2 - 6 year audience. I was whipping out the credit card ... ready to subscribe when I hit a wall. My excitement turned to bitter disappointment when I found out it is only being distributed in the USA. ARGH!!!

State's autism rises despite vaccine change

Even more evidence that the accusations regarding a link between vaccinations and autism are unfounded. More and more I think the accusations against vaccinations has got more to do with the American need to "blame someone" and have "some to sue", rather than actual cause and effect.

Also in the news this week Study: Genetic glitch raises autism risk

Jerry And Jessica Seinfeld Facing A Plagiarism Lawsuit

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld and his wife Jessica were sued on Monday over her top-selling cookbook for kids (Deceptively Delicious)by a rival author who complained of plagiarism and accused the star of defaming her on TV host David Letterman's show. (- Reuters)

Talk about defending your woman. Jerry was on David Letterman back in October and spoke very unkindly of the other author Missy Chase Lapine (who from what I read is an accredited nutrional expert),... whose book was out months before the Seinfeld's book. Jerry falsely states they came out the same time. He called her a "Wacko" and makes many not so nice comments. Check it out on youtube! Tune in at about 4:50

I share the same view as DAVE.... it amazes me that these people think that sneaking veggies in food is a NEW concept. I have no less then 5 toddler books which speak of doing the same things. Not to mention the gazillion magazine and online articles (pre book war even) and heaven forbid common sense. GROW UP PEOPLE! So no I do not really feel there is a case for plagiarism. However, I think Ms. Lapine may very well have a case for defamation of character. Even if she is a wacko... making some one you comedy material and calling them names doesn't seem the mature way to handle the situation... Letterman himself acknowledges this point by suggestion the possibility of further upheaval. All in all I think there can be little doubt that this is more about publicity than plagarism.

Baby's Named a Bad Bad Thing

Frustration with aquaintances who have spent 3 months plus struggling to decide on a name for their puppy turned dog (poor thing is still nameless) reminded me of the attached website! "Baby's Named a Bad, Bad Thing" A must read for anyone seeking the perfect name! Also a pretty funny read for anyone who gets a kick out of what "some people" name their kids. I shudder to think what said aquaintances would do if they were to have a baby. At least they would be given 9 months to sort it out! Here doggy doggy doggy!
