Drugs for ADHD 'not the answer'

What a breath of fresh air!!!!

Treating children who have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) with drugs is not effective in the long-term, research has shown.

A study obtained by the BBC's Panorama programme says drugs such as Ritalin and Concerta work no better than therapy after three years of treatment.

The findings by an influential US study also suggested long-term use of the drugs could stunt children's growth.

Bo On The Go

It took me a while to warm up to this show...but now I am really enjoying it. "Bo On the Go" is a Canadian-produced animation series which debuted on CBC this fall. The show follows the adventures of Bo, a positive, energetic and inquisitive young heroine who, along with her young friend Dezzy the dragon, encourages children at home to go on amazing adventures by actively joining her in a variety of movements.

While it might not be the foremost educational program on TV at present... it really gets our little guy moving. The CG animation offers a different look, distinguishing it from the other CBC kids shows. The characters are bright, colorful and full of personality. "Bo Buddies" are encouraged to assist Bo and Dezzy on their adventures and quests by joining in on the variety of movements. To the 30 something eye and ear this show may be somewhat of a flashback to the Jane Fonda aerobic exercise records of the past. However, to the active tot Bo and cohorts incite complete interaction both verbally and physically interacting like Bo on the Go does. Whether doing a penguin waddle, or running on the spot to make make Bo's power band glow... Next to Little Einsteins no other preschool show gets my 2year old Bo Buddy moving like this show does!

MAXIMUM BO POWER!!!

Bumbo Recall

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/10/25/earlyshow/contributors/susankoeppen/main3406743.shtml?source=mostpop_story

I have to confess I have never been a fan of the fad which is the Bumbo Babysitter Seat. So this recall did not affect me nor upset me. Actually I was a little bit pleased. We purchased a bumbo back around Xmas 2005. Our little guy was around 3 months at the time. We kept the thing for a mere 48hours. I honestly felt like I had my child placed on a dunce stool and all he was missing was the cone on his little head. He looked bored stiff. So what if he was sitting? That is all he was doing. We are pretty much "everything in it's own time" type parents... so sitting did not impress us any. Obviously one has to admit the advantages of the bumbo to infants with disabilities or disorders where assisted sitting is an asset. But for the average healthy child the same quantity of money would be so much better spent on a quality bouncy chair or swing type apparatus where the infant is stimulated to some degree.

We dubbed the seat the dumbo and promptly returned it. With the increase of bumbo sales came the flood of pictures of babies in bumbos in every location imaginable... they seemed to plague every parenting site we visited. It was only a matter of time before the issue of safety was brought to light. Soo now that children have been injured... some seriously with injuries like skill fractures..... Bumbo is changing their instructions. Yep that's the solution new warning labels or some such thing. In all seriousness... "YOU CHANGE THE DUMBO INSTRUCTIONS BUT NOT THE DUMBO PARENTS".

Awesome Site for Kids Movie Ratings

http://www.kidsinmind.com/ This site reconizes the flaws in the MPAA system... and provides concise information about films in an effort to allow parents to take their own value system into account and decide for themselves if a particular movies is suitable for their child.

They state there mission as this: Our Mission The purpose of kids-in-mind.com is to provide parents and other adults with objective and complete information about a film's content so that they can decide, based on their own value system, whether they should watch a movie with or without their kids. It's like a food labeling system which tells you what a food item contains. That's it. We make no judgments about what is good or bad or anything else. Indeed, we do not "condemn," "critique" or "criticize" movies. And we don't "praise" or "recommend" movies either. We advance no "beliefs" and we do not "preach" anything. We are not affiliated with any political party, any cultural or religious group, or any ideology. The only thing we advocate is responsible, engaged parenting. If one reads our reviews one will often find many instances where our descriptions are so detailed they seem absurd. But we'd rather err on the side of comprehensiveness. It's up to parents to decide which details are useful to them and their family, and which ones they consider fatuous.
